started running
I’m on a streak. Two days in a row I’ve ran. I need to stay on top of my health and everyone I know that runs loves it, so…
I still hate it but am making myself learn to love it. Any runners out there want to share some advice? Best time to run? Form and technique tips? Shoes? Etc.?
Also, be sure to check out John Dobbs blog tomorrow. Click on the link for Out Here Hope Remains to the right.
God bless.

Josh,
Start out slow. Don’t over do it. I started out hard and heavy several years ago and just stayed sore all the time and was miserable and stopped.
Recently I read a book, “The Non Runner’s Marathon.” It’s about a marathon class. They start you off slow. In fact, I started off just walking for the first 4-6 weeks. Three days a week. Then you start adding in the walking. I’ve also read many books and articles about conditioning your bones/muscles. I was always worried about the lungs, but you have to build up the muscle and bones first. The lungs just follow.
At least this has been my experience. Good luck!

I run and have for a while and I do love it. My motivation is not the best at times but I love the energy that it gives me. Things that work for me…Loud Music
I need the distraction. Gum…not sure thats good advice but its a must have for me. Form/Tech…well I run at the gym here in town on the treadmill and I set it at 4.8 to 5.0. I usually run in the evening and wear nike running shoes. I would start off slow and build up…u dont wanna be too sore thats no fun. I set a pace thats comfortable for me and get in my own lil world.
Well I’m not sure how much I helped but good luck.

Try Couch to 5K, it’s working for me. I also hated running, but find that I am actually having to make myself not run every day (b/c the plan says not to). I enjoy the peace and solitude as well as the feeling of accomplishment. It has also allowed me to do a lot of personal reflection during a time in my life when I need it most.

Also, I was told to get Asics Gel shoes. I chose the Gel Nimbus 11 and love them!

Josh,
Glad to find your blog. I’m a BIG runner. I’ve got a running blog that might answer a few of those questions.

I love to run! My suggestions?
1. Use Asic shoes. Or Saucony.
2. Use a heart rate monitor. Do an online search and figure out what your resting heart rate is and you peak. Start slow. I always like to increase my run by 1/20th of a mile everyday when I start out.
3. I’ll be back to visit your blog. Sometimes, you come across a blog that’s so squeaky clean, the writing is personal, and it just has a warm feeling. That’s you. Signing up now.
